About the Podcast

Après Cancer is the podcast nobody handed you on diagnosis day. The one your oncologist may not have mentioned. It's an honest show about life after a cancer diagnosis, hosted by Angie Helton out of southern Maine.

Angie found her first lump the day before New Year's Eve in 2021. The cancer came back in 2024 (same spot, same diagnosis). Somewhere between her fourth chemo treatment at Dana-Farber and a vintage ski sweater she'd had embroidered with the words Après Cancer across the front, Angie realized something: the existing conversation around cancer was talking around the actual experience, not about it.

So she built the show she wished had existed when she was sitting in the chair.

This is where the real conversations live. Dating during chemo. Sex and intimacy when your body no longer feels familiar. Marriages that bent, broke, surprised everyone by holding, or quietly took the off-ramp. The bizarre, absurd moments nobody warns you about. (If there were a drinking game for repeating your name and date of birth at every appointment, we'd all need a ride home.) Each episode features unfiltered stories from patients, partners, oncologists, therapists, longtime survivors, and the occasional public figure who has earned a seat at this particular table.

You will not find warrior language here. No angel wings, no "cancer taught me to slow down" sermons, no pastel-ribbon platitudes, no scripted bravery. What you get instead is the friend you wish had been waiting outside the consult room, holding a martini and a working sense of humor.

Because cancer doesn't get to make us boring.
